Pain!
It came with the cleanup following the first snow in November. It started in my low back but unlike past episodes it began to radiate into my right thigh. It hung on and by Spring I was unable to walk 50 feet without feeling like collapsing. I couldn’t sit, walk, drive of sleep. Sports were out of the question.
A trip to the Neurologist. Then an MRI. The diagnosis – Spinal stenosis with a lumbar spondylolisthesis. A slippage of one vertebrae forward over the lower vertebrae compressing the nerves in the spinal canal and again where they exited the spinal column.
A visit to the spine surgeon and the message was this is common in folks your age and a good one for surgical decompression and fusion. A big operation. Of course it would take 7 weeks to work through the cue to the next open spot.
He referred me to the RehabGYM to build me up for the main event.
I hadn’t been to a “gym” since High School. I was intimidated at the prospect of buff bodies running around in Spandex. Then there were the machines. Engines of torture?
I made an appointment and met Eric, a Certified Athletic Trainer who took me under his wing and showed me around. He demystified those intimidating machines and noted he didn’t think I needed Physical Therapy at this point saving me the potential added expense. He worked out a progressively robust Cardio and Strengthening program tailored to meet my needs.
I have been coming daily since, meeting my goals and then some.
The rewards: The pain is gone. My strength overall and in my leg is improving. The best news is the surgery has been postponed indefinitely. I am doing all my routine activities without pain and looking forward to resuming sports.
The RehabGYM is more than a place to recover from an injury or surgery. It is a place you can be proactive and potentially avoid an injury or possibly surgery. It is always busy but never crowded. It is a place where your free “personal trainer” is never too busy to find time to help. It is a place that has allowed me to avoid a “big surgery” for now and know that if I need it, I will be in much better condition to undergo it.
Thank you RehabGYM!

"Your skills and expertise are nothing short of miraculous and greatly appreciated. The only way I can somewhat explain is to say I feel like someone took off my straight jacket and now I can move again. The mobility I am experiencing in my upper body is remarkable. It definitely was worth all the not so good stuff you did to me to feel like I do now. Keep up the terrific work and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!" "I've been to three other places for PT and my experience at the RehabGYM was by far the best!" "I was very impressed with the quality of rehab as well as capability and personality of every physical therapist. They put me at ease but still pushed me to improve." "I have been very pleased will all aspects of my ACL rehab experience... Nice, comfortable, inviting facility... Very knowledgeable staff (I trust their information and advice)... Friendly and fun... I appreciate and value the team collaboration (across the staff and direction with my ortho doc). Surprisingly, I've actually enjoyed the experience of rehabbing my knee... It's doing great and I'm in better shape than before injury!" - K.M. "I had a wonderful experience at the RehabGYM. I only wish I was able to come the first time around. I had a great PT - she was encouraging, inspiring, caring, and professional. This gym has a great feeling to it! Thanks for all of your help." - L.G.
"All the therapists I worked with did an excellent job. My main therapist was very thorough and professional. She was very encouraging and always had a positive attitude. She made the pain of therapy much easier to handle." - G.C. "You guys run a bang-up operation. I would definitely recommend the gym to anybody I knew for rehab." - A.W. "My therapists were professional, warm, and caring. I learned a lot about my body and how to care for it. Thank you!" - J.M. "The RehabGYM has changed my mind set about physical therapy. Thank you!" - J.B. "The athletic trainer listened and adjusted my program according to how my knee felt at the time. I definitely felt like we were a team." - L.L. |

Many thanks to all!" - B.R. "Great staff and facilities! Knowledge and professionalism were outstanding." - J.L. "My therapist was very knowledgeable and helpful. I learned so much about respecting the limits of my body." - M.W. "Thanks for the fast and efficient help with my long-suffering injury. Straight to the root of the problem. I finally feel like there's a clear path to recovery! You rock!" - D.D. "I really liked the exercises rather than taking painkillers. The details of my injury were clearly explained. I had the responsibility in following through with my exercise routine. Thank you!" - C.P. "Your professionalism and caring attitude is reflected well through your staff. You have a great organization." - N.L. "You provided me with a lot of confidence, insight, and knowledge that I will carry with me and pass on to others. Just wanted you all to know I'm so glad the RehabGYM exists. I will continue recommending the RehabGYM to anyone who wants to meet certain physical goals or needs to overcome physical injury or challenges. Going to the RehabGYM when I injured my knee and post-surgery gave me a happy, cheerful, and motivating environment to go every week, which was key for my rehabilitation. It was definitely one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences I've had to face so far. In fact, I'm disappointed in myself for taking so long to get to where I am now in my rehab. It's not like me to get off-track on an individual goal. In any case, I'm snowboarding again now thanks to your help, and I hope to get back on the soccer field this summer, too. I really admire your work and appreciate the passion and dedication everyone at the RehabGYM has for their career and their patients. My injury and recovery experience has in fact sparked an interest in the field of athletic training and physical therapy, which I am still researching." "This was my first time attending physical therapy. It was a wonderful experience and very successful. Thank you!" - B.S. |
